A Dangerous Woman (Audible Audio Edition) Mary McGarry Morris Ruth Ann Phimister Recorded Books Books

Martha Horgan is unpredictable, obsessive, and "different." Townspeople pity the strange young woman, but they are also frightened by her. Ruth Ann Phimister's narration gives full voice to Martha's collision course through life. A Dangerous Woman was made into a major motion picture and chosen as one of the best books of the year by the editors of ALA Library Journal and Time magazine.

I am giving this a three star rating. I found I was wanting to tell Martha “don’t do that “ or “don’t say that”. I thought it most depressing. It did hold my attention and I finished it. Will be interesting to know what others think about it.Product details

A Dangerous Woman (Audible Audio Edition) Mary McGarry Morris Ruth Ann Phimister Recorded Books Books Reviews
This book is as skilfully written as the other reviews say, and I'll be delving into Morris's other books.
Characterization was spot on, for a troubled, sensitive person who is out of touch with the expectations and sensitivities of others. The reader lives the story from Martha's perspective. She is prone to misunderstandings, misreading signals and intentions of the people around her, she's obsessive, and it's painful to be in her shoes. (I can relate personally to the social anxiety, though thank God, not to the level Martha has it.) The constant anxiety is conveyed so well that I had to take frequent breaks from this book--and I typically enjoy bleak, difficult stories.
At the start, I did feel for Martha, but it's such an endless series of uncomfortable situations, that I eventually just wanted to shake her, or lock her up, somewhere, because she's such a hopeless case.
Wonderfully talented author who creates all-to human characters and explores their relationships. Be sure to read Morris's other works...each a stand-alone.
I couldn't put this down. I just could feel Marthas emotions. I was quite surprised with tne ending and I felt so sad. It was a very interesting book to read. The writing is fantastic. So true to life.
This is a truly amazing author. All of her books have been 5 stars in my opinion. This novel is so absorbing! Morris has captured the tortured life of Martha and keeps you riveted to the story through suspense and compelling honesty. You will not easily forget this story, but that is typical of all the books I have read of Ms. Morris's.
I cannot stop thinking about Martha Horgan, Morris' protagonist in this novel.
"A Dangerous Woman" is not only well-written, it's complex in a way that readers cannot quite figure out why they are both drawn to and repelled by Martha Horgan and the people whose lives are altered by her.
The story is gripping, the characters well developed, and Morris' novel touches on some important social issues. I loved this book, and look forward to reading more by this author. Hopefully, they will be as compelling.
I was literally out of breath when I finished this book.
Identified so closely with the main character for I've known someone
much like this and watched their struggles in life. Somehow always
doing the wrong thing or not but being blamed always.
Mary McGarry Morris is one of my favorite authors for she understands
her characters and forgives their human weaknesses.
This unwanted unloved lady . No one understood her. All she wanted was to be loved. It was a good story . Some what slow at times. But it had a lesson for us all.
I am giving this a three star rating. I found I was wanting to tell Martha “don’t do that “ or “don’t say that”. I thought it most depressing. It did hold my attention and I finished it. Will be interesting to know what others think about it.
